The Former Schwan’s Delivery Service Will End in November
Growing up on a farm in Eastern Iowa, we didn't have an ice cream truck that roamed rural areas in the summer. The closest thing we had was when the Schwan's man would show up. That is what we called him, anyway. Apologizes to the many women who have delivered for Schwan's over the years. The every-other-week schedule was tough to wait out as a kid, but my parents would always make sure they ordered a few treats before he left our farm.
In 2022, Schwan's changed its name to Yelloh. In 2024, the company announced that it was about to end operations. KCRG reports that Yellow will end all operations in November. The last day you can purchase products out of the big yellow trucks will be November 8th. Yelloh stated that "multiple insurmountable business challenges" led to the closure, along with changing lifestyles, according to KCRG.
Schwan's was founded in Minnesota in 1952. It would expand nationwide delivering frozen meals, ice cream, and other treats to American homes. KCRG reports that the company employs around 1100 people.
Holly and I had Schwan's delivered to our home in Marion for several years too. We had an outstanding driver who would always stop and ask about how the kids were doing and then hit the specials they had to offer. Some weeks we would order food, other times we didn't. Like everything else, prices went up and it was cheaper to get groceries elsewhere.
Another company from a simpler time fading away. So long, Schwan's man.
