The Five Movies That Totally Won Me Over in 2025
I love movies. I always have. Leaving reality for an hour or two. The willing suspension of disbelief. 2025 was another great year in film, and thanks to the countless streaming services we all subscribe to, you can sit down tonight and watch some of the best movies of the year. Sorry, movie theaters...I saw all these films in my own home. And these five are the ones that are sticking with me the most.
5. Materialists
Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal are all wonderful to look at in this romantic comedy. But there is more here. An examination of what money can do to a relationship. Plus, there is a great gag about leg extensions.
4. Jay Kelly
George Clooney plays Jay Kelly, but let's be honest. He kind of is Jay Kelly. The film looks at the life and the regrets of an aging movie star, and everything he had to give up, to make his dreams come true. Clooney is great, and Adam Sandler as his manager is fantastic.
3. Sinners
Sinners is so much more than just a vampire movie. It is a film about the power of music and the power of freedom. Michael B. Jordan is fantastic in a dual role that will no doubt have him winning some hardware come awards season.
2. Weapons
A classroom of children goes missing in the night. Where did they go? Who took them? Julia Garner and Josh Brolin are the headliners, but the real star here is an unrecognizable Amy Madigan. Creepy is an understatement.
1. Train Dreams
A simple movie that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. It follows the simple life of a man named Robert, played by Joel Edgerton. He works in the forest of the Pacific Northwest during the turn of the 20th century. The movie is filled with some of the most gorgeous imagery put on film in 2025. This movie won't be for everyone. But it will stay with you.
