Former Iowa Quarterback Named MVP of 2026 Shrine Bowl
The 101st East-West Shrine game was a chance for college seniors to get the attention of NFL scouts prior to April's NFL Draft. Former Iowa Hawkeye quarterback Mark Gronowski did more than just turn heads. He was the MVP.
Former Iowa QB Earns MVP Award
Former Iowa Hawkeye quarterback Mark Gronowski played much of his senior season at Iowa hurt. But those nagging injuries cleared up late in the year, as he helped lead Iowa to an impressive bowl game win over Vanderbilt. The Athletic reports that Gronowski looked great again last night, going 7 for 10 with 86 yards passing and another 28 yards rushing in his one quarter of work. That was enough to earn him offensive MVP honors on the evening!
How high will Gronowski go in the NFL Draft? It's hard to tell. But the Athletic reports that he was the most impressive quarterback at Shrine Bowl practices last week, and brings a lot of athleticism to the position.
Iowa's Kaden Wetjen Also Impresses Scouts
Former Hawkeye wide receiver and kick return legend Kaden Wetjen also impressed coaches during Shrine Bowl practices. The Athletic reports that he was nearly uncoverable during one-on-ones. Wetjen had two catches for 11 yards in last night's game and showed off his return abilities, too.
Wetjen's speed and athletic ability will surely land him a spot in the NFL!
