An Eastern Iowa Brewery is Closing Its Doors After Over a Decade

After 12 years in business, a local Eastern Iowa brewery is set to shut down. According to an article from the Iowa City Press Citizen, Kalona Brewing Company will no longer welcome customers after this month.

The announcement from Kalona Brewing Company's owners Ted and Becky Nagy came last Thursday, October 7th via Facebook. The post says that COVID-19 is one of the main factors that contributed to the closure. It reads:

"Unfortunately, we have been unable to recover financially from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently exploring other business opportunities including the possibility of KBC reopening with new partners and remain hopeful to find a better fit in the future."

The Iowa City Press Citizen reports that Kalona Brewing Company first opened its doors at 405 B Ave in Downtown Kalona in 2012. In addition to craft beer, the business also offered a large menu and hosted lots of events, including Hawkeye watch parties and live music. Their final day in business will be Halloween, Thursday, October 31st.

Ahead of their closing, Kalona Brewing Company is selling their inventory at "rock-bottom prices." That includes kegs, which are $120 for a half-barrel and $75 for a sixth-barrel. You can check out a list of beers that are available HERE.

Kalona Brewing Company is encouraging fans of the brewery to visit them for "one last round," to "share memories, and celebrate the community we've built together" before they close. The taproom is open Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
