According to a press release, most scams happen on social media sites and messaging platforms like GroupMe. Police officials suggest following these tips to protect yourself this football season.
- Only purchase your Hawkeye football tickets through the University of Iowa ticket office or the official ticket resale partner, SeetGeek.
- Be careful on social media sites and messaging apps. Avoid purchasing tickets from people you don't know on social media. Scammers will often use fake profiles.
- Never share personal information with strangers, like your photo ID or credit card.
- Check ticket prices. If you are not buying from an official source, research what tickets are going for. If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is.
- Meet in person and pay securely. Bringing a friend along is also a great idea.
