A ‘Landmark’ Cedar Rapids Restaurant is Currently Up For Sale

After 26-years in business, the folks behind a popular Cedar Rapids restaurant are looking to sell. According to a listing on Cedar Rapids Area Homes, The Flying Wienie is in need of new owners!

The Flying Wienie's History

The Flying Wienie first opened at 103 8th Ave SW in Cedar Rapids back in 1999. According to the restaurant's website, owners John & Denise Martin moved to Eastern Iowa from the Chicago area in 1989 and wanted to bring "genuine Chicago-style cuisine" to the Corridor. The unique eatery is known for its Chicago-style hotdogs, Italian beef and sausage, gyros, and hand-cut fries. Oh, and the big yellow plane that sits on the roof!

The Listing

Although the Flying Wienie is now on the market, the listing from Cedar Rapids Area Homes says that the business "is open and will remain open." Whoever purchases the business will acquire the "building site and parking lot, furniture, fixtures, all assets, name, website, and recipes for this iconic 26-year Cedar Rapids landmark." I've been to the Flying Wienie several times over the past few years, and my favorite things to order are the gyro, the Chicago dog, and the CHEESE FRIES. I'm happy to see that the restaurant will remain open, and I hope that their delicious legacy can live on!
