Outdoor Apparel Store to Close All Iowa Locations
A popular outdoor apparel store is preparing to close all of its locations in North America, including several here in Iowa.
Eddie Bauer Files for Bankruptcy
Eddie Bauer, which first opened in the Seattle area in 1920, announced that it will be closing 200 stores in North America and filing for bankruptcy, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Store locations outside of North America would not be subject to the bankruptcy, and the company's manufacturing, wholesale, and ecommerce operations will continue.
The Brand Could Live On Under New Ownership
The Gazette reports that Catalyst Brands, which owns the Eddie Bauer brand, is filing the bankruptcy. A number of parties are expected to bid for the rights to operate some, or possibly all, Eddie Bauer stores. The Gazette reports that the winning bidder would be able to license the rights, and potentially keep stores open, or bring Eddie Bauer back under the umbrella of another retailer.
Several Iowa Locations Will Close
According to the Gazette, three Corridor Eddie Bauer locations will be affected by the bankruptcy. Stores at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids, Coralridge Mall in Coralville, and an outlet location in Williamsburg will eventually close. This isn't the first time the company has filed for bankruptcy. They also filed in 2003 and 2009.
