A Coffee Shop & Taproom Are Coming to the Former Monticello Pizza Ranch
A couple of new businesses are coming to Jones County in the coming months!
Early this fall, Eastern Iowans Jamie and Eric Miller announced on social media that they are opening a coffee shop and a taproom inside the former Pizza Ranch at 505 E Oak Street in Monticello. Pizza Ranch shut its doors back in early 2025.
Sugar Belle
According to the post from the Millers, the first part of their two part Pizza Ranch transformation is called Sugar Belle. According to Sugar Belle's Facebook page, the business is a coffee shop that will offer "fun coffee, matcha & gluten-free donuts - Sweetness with a healthy twist & a vacay vibe in every sip!" And the best part? It will have a drive-thru!
Social media posts from Sugar Belle show that construction on the shop is well underway. Not only has the interior been transformed, but the outside of the building has a new paint job! The latest post from Sugar Belle arrived on December 1st, and it shows that concrete for the drive-thru has now been poured. Progress!

Crispy Boy
Part two of the Millers' Pizza Ranch takeover is a new taproom for their brewery Crispy Boy. If you're not familiar with the brand, Crispy Boy was established in 2024 by the Miller Malting Company. They offer gluten-free craft beer that is made right here in Iowa. The official website says that all the "planting, harvesting, malting, and brewing" for the beer is done locally.
Not only will the former Pizza Ranch serve as a taproom for Crispy Boy, it will also feature an event space. The post from the Millers says it will be "a place to gather, celebrate, and enjoy farm-fresh, gluten-free beer brewed right here in Iowa."
According to a September article from KMCH, the Crispy Boy Taproom is expected to open sometime in late spring of 2026, with the event space opening to follow shortly after.
In the meantime, Crispy Boy's Light American Lager is available on tap at local bars & restaurants all over Eastern Iowa!
