Three people are dead after what Cedar Rapids police describe as an apparent murder/suicide on Thursday.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that police were called to the parking lot at 4900 Council Street NE, near Noelridge Park, at 12:24 p.m. for a report of a deceased person. Upon arriving, police discovered a male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the temporary restroom in the parking lot. The Gazette reports that police later found another crime scene in the 4400 block of Regal Ave. NE where two adults were found dead in what appears to be a double homicide. Police say that they believe the two incidents are related and the public is not in danger.

The Gazette reports that first responders were seen removing the bodies Thursday afternoon. Neighbors say the people who lived there were quiet. The murder happened near Harding Middle School. The Gazette reports that police notified school officials about what was happening, but stated that the school did not need to lock down.

The identities of those involved have not been released pending notification of family. The investigation into the deaths is ongoing.
