If you know Sally Deeb, the owner of Sally's on Broadway in Springville, you know she has a heart of gold. Her restaurant is the site of countless fundraisers and fantastic Iowa comfort food. Recently, Sally worked with an unusual partner to help raise funds for a charity that raises money for childhood cancer research.

According to a post on Facebook, Sally's on Broadway partnered with the Anamosa State Penitentiary in Anamosa. The special event allowed inmates to purchase a meal from Sally's as long as they also made a minimum donation of $2 to charity. There were three dinner choices available: BBQ ribs, broasted chicken, and butterfly shrimp. And according to the post, the response was incredible!

Around 250 inmates took part in the event, raising a total of $506. On top of that, inmates donated an extra $411 to the cause! The post stated that the inmates chose a cause near and dear to everyone at Sally's on Broadway, the Austin Strong Foundation.

According to the post, many inmates expressed how deeply they were moved by Austin's story and the foundation that bears his name, and how much it meant to employees of the penitentiary.

A total of $917 was raised for the Austin Strong Foundation from a group of people that society often forgets about. It is also another example of how much Sally cares for her community. Congratulations on a job well done, and for showing another population of people how to remain 'Austin Strong'.
