Former Five-Star Recruit is Leaving the Hawkeyes
When you're a highly touted recruit, those stars next to your name get a lot of attention. The more stars, the higher the expectations. Sometimes it's hard to live up to the hype.
Five-Star Recruit Announces Iowa Departure
The Des Moines Register reports that former five-star high school recruit Addie Deal has announced that she is leaving the Hawkeyes and entering the transfer portal. Deal was a huge get for Iowa coach Jan Jensen, and the expectations were that Deal would develop into the next Caitlin Clark level star for Iowa. She announced her intentions yesterday on social media.
An Uneven Freshman Season
Deal started 3 out of 34 games during her lone season in Iowa City and showed flashes of her potential. The Register reports that her best game was a 20 point effort against Ohio State. But despite getting increased playing time due to Taylor McCabe's ACL injury, Deal couldn't duplicate those scoring numbers. The Register reports that Deal had eight scoreless games to go along with six games in which she scored in double digits.
More Transfer Portal Moves Coming
This is the world of college basketball that we live in. Deal tried to live up to sky-high expectations and just never really clicked in this offense. Thats not to say she wasn't a good teammate, or won't still be a great player. Sometimes the best of intentions don't make a situation work.
Iowa wishes Addie and her family all the best during her college career.
