It's an all-too-familiar tale these days. So many doors closing in the Eastern Iowa restaurant business, but many others taking their chances on opening new ones.

The Oakhill Jackson neighborhood of Cedar Rapids is home to the latest new arrival as the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that an empty storefront will soon be filled at 1004 Seventh St. SE.

This unique location has sat vacant for several years, until recently when, according to the Gazette, the Fun Not Fancy restaurant group and local restaurateur Kory Nanke picked the spot to open their new venture, tentatively set for November 1.

Within a few blocks of both the NewBo district and the MedQuarter district, the restaurant is going to feature a menu of popular quick lunch fare including burgers, rib-eye steak, chicken gyros, shrimp boil, and more, alongside canned beer.

With Nanke acting as the building's owner, the restaurant will be managed by Tim Kindl and Tim Oathout. According to the Gazette, the spot has been home to a variety of businesses over the years. It is most recently recalled as being a grocery store, but never a restaurant. Owners and management say it's a prime spot to give their concept a go.
