LeMars, Iowa is often considered the ice cream capital of Iowa, if not the world so it's perhaps fitting that the latest sweet sensation hitting nationwide store shelves is a product created by a LeMars native, brought to life from an idea he had while hanging out in his Iowa State University dorm room.

Why doesn't anyone sell the bottom of a sundae cone?

Jarod Steffes, along with fellow ISU student Tyler DeVos, set out to create a snack that would eliminate this burning (freezing?) question once and for all, and Muddy Bites were born.

The official product description, from the Muddy Bites website, says

We took the best part of a sundae cone and turned it into a bite-sized snack you can finally enjoy over and over again

Furthermore, Steffes says it's a bite-sized version of the "waffle end filled with chocolate."

YUM!

According to the Muddy Bites website they've already been selling in stores like 7-11 but nothing on a significant national scale. Until now.

Radio Iowa says that earlier this year when Wal-Mart held a national product showcase, Muddy Bites won out over several thousand other products before Wal-Mart executives in Little Rock, Arkansas. With an April 2023 deadline, just in time for the heat of next summer, Steffes, De Vos, and their crew are ramping up production to bring this sweet treat to the masses.
