More John Deere Production Is Moving Away From Iowa

Iowans love their John Deere and are very proud of the facilities we have in the state. So, it makes sense that people get upset to find out parts of production for Iowa’s favorite green tractor are leaving the state.

Back in early June, John Deere announced they were moving their cab production from their Waterloo to Mexico. The announcement came as Deere plans to bring new product programs to its Waterloo operation. In order to do this, they need to consolidate its manufacturing of cabs from the Tractor and Cab Assembly Operations in Waterloo to Ramos Component Works in Mexico

But this isn’t the only Iowa to Mexico move Deere is making.

Over in Ottumwa, John Deere is gearing up for another move in production as they move their mower conditioner production to Monterrey, Mexico.

But this isn’t the end of the facility.

As they made their announcement to move production from Ottumwa, Deere also announced they will revitalize the Iowa plant for the future. This will be done through a committee that will be looking into the future of the plant says the Ottumwa Courier.

These plans will include focusing on other products of the plant such as round balers, self-propelled windrowers, and square balers. It is not known yet how many employees if any, will be impacted by the move and this will also depend on the potential reassignment opportunities available.

While the move from Waterloo to Mexico is expected to be complete by the end of 2024, Ottumwa is looking to be done with their move by the end of 2023.
