Iowa’s Best ‘Once in a Lifetime’ Meal is a Popular Summer Stop
When it comes to all-you-can-eat fried chicken, catfish, and shrimp, nobody does it better than Bluff Lake!
A few months ago, the website Eat This published an article listing the best "once in a lifetime" meal in all 50 states. I was not disappointed to see that Bluff Lake Catfish Farm in Maquoketa was the pick for Iowa!
Located at 9301 95th Ave, Bluff Lake is a staple for anyone visiting Jackson County. It's one of those places that can be tricky to get to, but is well worth the drive. According to the article:
"At Bluff Lake Catfish Farm you can dine with a view of the waterfall that gushes into Bluff Lake. The beautiful scenery is only topped by the crispy fried catfish that you'll see coming out of the kitchen to just about every table. But, good luck finding it, says one reviewer, 'This is "somewhere in Iowa" because you won't be discovering it without hearing about it and being told how to get to it.'"
Bluff Lake offers all-you-can-eat whole and fillet catfish on Fridays, all-you-can-eat haddock on Saturdays, and all-you-can-eat fried shrimp and chicken on Sundays. The friend shrimp and chicken are my favorites, but only because I've only ever visited the restaurant on a Sunday! I hear the prime rib meal on Fridays is also pretty darn good...
Bluff Lake Catfish Farm has officially reopened after temporarily closing for a remodel. The current hours are Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can check out the full menu HERE.
