The Iowa State Patrol Created a Challenge to Honor Trooper Jim Smith
The Iowa State Patrol has created a new challenge to honor slain Sgt. Jim Smith - and it's actually pretty good for you. Sgt. Smith was tragically shot and killed after a chase in Grundy County on Friday, April 9th. Suspect Michael Lang was charged with first-degree murder in his death. Lang was also shot and wounded during a standoff with police following the chase and shooting of Sgt. Smith, but has since recovered and been placed in custody.
The 462 Challenge is good for your heart
To honor Sgt. Smith, the Iowa State Patrol created the 462 challenge. 462 was Sgt. Smith's badge number. The challenge asks Iowans to run, walk or bike 4.62 miles. Once you're done, you're asked to send a screenshot or picture of the run to the Iowa State Patrol. The plan is to create a collage to honor Sgt. Smith.
Once you've completed the challenge, upload the screenshot from your Fitbit, Apple Watch etc. to social media and use the hashtag #462challenge so the post can be collected for the collage.
