It's been a crazy couple of months for people who play the lottery in Northeastern Iowa. It might be something in the water here in Black Hawk County.

This has been a great year so far for people in the Cedar Valley when it comes to winning big with the Iowa Lottery. Since April there have been about five lottery winners in the Cedar Valley.

In early Spring, one Waterloo woman won $100,000 after playing the lottery. Not even a full week later, yet another woman in Waterloo took home the big cash prize of $30,000. By the end of April, a third Waterloo woman had claimed a $20,000 payout. In total, $150,000 went directly into the pockets of several Cedar Valley residents. Another Waterloo man sweetened up the pot by winning another $100,000 in April.

You thought Waterloo had the only big winners? Think again!

One Cedar Falls man got very lucky and won the state lottery prize in June. Chad Niehaus ended up bringing home $30,000.

It looks like this winning streak isn't just limited to Waterloo and Cedar Falls. It's rapidly spreading throughout Black Hawk County.

A LaPorte City won big with the Iowa Lottery this week. Ann Haraldson got very lucky when she played the state lottery scratch game "Bonus Crossword" and won $30,000. This winning ticket that she bought came from the Kwik tar on 841 South Street in Jesup.

"I picked up a few tickets, took them home with me," she told officials. "I scratched them off at home and sat at the kitchen table and screamed really loud."

With Haraldson's $30,000 win, she now brings the total number of Iowa Lottery winnings in Black Hawk County to approximately $310,000.

Hilarious Iowa DOT Signs

Anyone else share a sense of humor with a state's Department of Transportation? Just me? Well, every Monday the Iowa Department of Transportation puts up a sometimes hilarious, sometimes straightforward message on their road signs across the state. This is called "message Monday" and Iowa DOT tries to entertain and educate drivers through these signs. Here are just a few of our favorites.

Roseanne Barr Abandoned Iowa Mansion in Eldon, IA

I fell into a rabbit hole when I found out that Roseanne Barr almost had a mansion in Iowa. After seeing the current state of the property on Facebook, I was amazed that such an extravagant project could be so quickly overtaken by nature. Only two hours away from Waterloo, this abandoned field could have hosted some of the coolest and elite Hollywood parties in the Midwest. The current photos were taken by Gable Fry on a recent trip he took.
