With the 2021 Iowa high school softball season just getting underway, the first rankings have been released.

Four teams from Northeast Iowa are featured in the preseason poll, released Monday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU). West Delaware is the highest rated team from the area. The Hawks are featured at No. 2 in Class 3A, after qualifying for the state tournament the past two seasons.

Charles City is ranked behind West Delaware at No. 9 in Class 3A. The other rated teams from the area are both in Class 1A: defending state champion Clarkville (No. 10) and Turkey Valley (No. 13).

Monday marked the opening day of competition for softball and baseball teams across Iowa. All teams are planning to play a full schedule this summer following a 2020 season that was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
