Dollar General was among the first retail chains to announce it would devote its first hour after opening the doors each day, exclusively to senior citizens needing to shop for supplies during the Coronavirus crisis.

Iowa's News Now says Midwest-based grocery store Fareway has announced it will do the same. Starting Wednesday, March 18th, Fareway stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The 8 a.m. hour will be reserved for seniors (age 65 and older), expecting mothers and those with chronic and underlying medical conditions. From 9 a.m. until close, the general public will be able to shop at the stores.

They've already increased the cleaning frequency at their stores and made additional hand sanitizers and wipes available to shoppers among other protocols to help protect against Coronavirus.

Fareway management asks that shoppers respect the time reserved for elderly shoppers and those with higher health risks, for the protection and courtesy of all during this time.
