Police Say Iowa City Man Shot Landlord Who Came to Fix Plumbing
A 24-year-old Iowa City man has been arrested and charged with shooting his landlord multiple times.
According to a criminal complaint, the landlord of a property in the 400 block of East Fairchild Street in Iowa City arrived at the residence at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, December 21 to work on a plumbing problem. The landlord had made previous arrangements to do work at that time.
After doing some work on the main level of the building, the landlord went upstairs and knocked on a bedroom door for access to additional plumbing. While he was knocking on the bedroom door, shots rang out. Authorities say that Carter Wolf, who was in a different bedroom in the home, shot through the door of the bedroom he was in, toward the door.
The criminal complaint states Carter fired "at least 6 or 7 times through his bedroom door toward the victim... The suspect admits he never saw the victim, because his bedroom door was closed. The suspect admits firing through his closed door in the direction of the victim".
The landlord was struck by multiple times and required immediate surgery and was hospitalized after the incident. The landlord's name, and current condition, were not made available.
Wolf was booked into the Johnson County Jail in Iowa City on Monday night, January 3. He's been charged with Reckless Use of a Firewarm with Serious Injury, a Class C felony. Wolf remains in the Johnson County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
