Iowa to Host Three of the ‘Biggest Fireworks Shows in the World’
Both fireworks and live music lovers will delight in an event happening in Iowa this summer.
Over a five-day period at the end of July and in early August, Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) will be holding its annual convention in central Iowa. Not only does that mean three fireworks displays that are 90-minutes each, but also three nights of live music.
It starts on Sunday, July 31 at 7 p.m. with a concert from Jan and Dean's Beach Party featuring Dean Torrence.
Tuesday, August 2 the band Hairball will perform their tribute to 80s rock.
Friday, August 5 country singer Alexandra Kay will hit the stage, along with Iowa's own The Kraft Brothers. Late last year, Alexandra received an unforgettable call from Tim McGraw. He asked her to be part of his 2022 tour. Alexandra will continue to open shows for Tim until early June.
After the concerts each of those three evenings at Iowa Speedway in Newton, there are fireworks displays. They're expected to light up the sky for approximately 90-minutes each night. The Facebook page for PGI describes the displays as the "Biggest Fireworks Shows in the World!" Tickets for the individual nights of what's called Thunderstruck Over Iowa Speedway are $20, available here.
Clearly, the members of the Pyrotechnics Guild International have an awful lot of fun. Below is the group setting off 1.8 million fireworks and part of the finale of one of their 2021 shows.
