Fall is here and winter is not far behind. With that comes the major holidays where many of us find ourselves getting together to feast. But every year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and during the winter months, there remain many who face the challenge of not knowing where their next meal will come from.

A community-minded Midwest grocery chain is teaming with Feeding America for "Scan Out Hunger". In collaboration with its customers, suppliers and community partners the campaign will aim to raise $500,000, which equates to (approximately) 5 million meals. All you have to do is "scan the H". According to CBS2, "customers can scan the “H” (a special QR code found across the store) with their mobile device to view all Hy-Vee deals and coupons, as well as access the “Scan Out Hunger” website and make a monetary donation directly to Feeding America."

On top of customer donations, Hy-Vee will donate $150,000 and partner with area businesses who will match. For every $1 donated, approximately 10 meals can be provided.

Hy-Vee CEO, Chairman and President Randy Edeker spoke about the program, saying

"as we head into fall and look toward the holidays, this unfortunately is when food insecurity can hit families the hardest. Food banks are working hard to meet the needs of their communities as the pandemic continues to burden families. We are asking our customers and partners to join our campaign to help ensure no one has to worry about when their next meal will be."
