Hawkeye Students Now Have To Pay Up For Basketball Games

Changes are happening at the University of Iowa and these changes will directly impact the students who attend the university. The Iowa women's basketball team has completely won over the hearts of Iowa basketball fans and I think it'd be fair to say...they are turning into one of the nation's favorite teams to watch.

After smashing an attendance record for their Crossover at Kinnick, selling out every season ticket for the 2023-2024 season, it feels as if these changes were destined to happen.

After a historic run in the NCAA college basketball tournament, led by the tremendous talent, Caitlin Clark, it really isn't that surprising what changes are being made for Hawkeye students.

Student Ticket Changes

The University of Iowa Athletics Department has decided to update how students will get tickets for women's basketball games, men's basketball games, and wrestling meets. Students will be charged to attend women's basketball games for the first time.

According to Hawkeye Sports, students can now purchase $5 single-game tickets to men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's wrestling for the upcoming season. These tickets will be limited to one ticket per game and/or meet.

According to Hawkeye Sports, "The new model is meant to allow for more flexibility, promote attendance, and allow for most students to have opportunities to attend games inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena." 

Tickets will be available for students to attend all conference and nonconference games/meets through the end of 2023. Students who would like to attend games/meets in 2024 will be able to purchase those tickets on December 7th.

According to the Daily Iowan, around 1,800 student tickets are available for men's basketball games, 1,000 for women's basketball games, and 1,000 for men's wrestling meets. Is it just me or will the University of Iowa need to increase the number of student tickets available for women's basketball games? If not this year, you can only assume that change will be happening by next year. Single game/meet tickets will be available to all students until they are sold out.

$5 to watch one of the most exciting teams in the country and one of the most exciting players on the planet seems like a pretty fair deal to me.
