Go Deeper Into the Further in the ‘Insidious: The Last Key’ Trailer
Freddy Krueger? Who’s that? Never heard of him! Knife fingers are so passé. Horror cinema’s newest and most fearsome attraction is Key-Fingers Man, a hideous pitch-black apparition with gnarled skeleton keys sprouting out its fingertips like a manicure gone horribly, horribly wrong. And as shown in the new trailer for Insidious: The Last Key, those key-fingers can be inserted into the throat of a petrified victim, “locking” their voice away forever, leaving them trapped to scream for all eternity in a low-treble/mid-bass audio mix. A fate worse than death? Director Adam Robitel will let you be the judge of that!
In the fourth installment of the popular supernatural horror franchise, Robitel returns to the story of parapsychologist Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) for a stroll down the derelict alley stemming off of Memory Lane, Formative Trauma Court. As Shaye states pretty plainly in the trailer, this time, it’s personal; it’s her family’s house that’s being haunted by the muffled, unrestful spirits bound to dwell there. To dispel the malevolent energies from her home, she’ll have to draw on her full reserves of power and almost unknowingly poke a creepy-looking demon in the face.
The film is due January 5, a notorious dumping ground for studios looking to unload properties they suspect will be flops. Taking that into consideration along with Robitel’s spotty resume (his only previous directorial credit is the thoroughly unoriginal The Taking of Deborah Logan, and he wrote Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) and a trailer perilously light on scares, and we’re a little bit worried about the (haunted) house that James Wan built.
