Heavy rains overnight have forced the closure of George Wyth State Park for this weekend.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the park will be closed completely starting at 4:30 PM on Friday (May 4, 2018). The heavy rain that fell Thursday night and into Friday morning has caused the Cedar River to rise.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flood Warning for a portion of the Cedar River. This includes a stretch through Black Hawk County, from north of Cedar Falls to south of Waterloo, near La Porte City. The Cedar River is projected to crest on Monday morning, and park officials hope to be back open by mid-week next week.

Park staff expect water across the roadways in the campground areas and throughout the park. The trails will also be underwater and closed for any use.

Please check with the local parks for any day-to-day updates on openings and closures.
