First Severe Thunderstorm Warnings of the Year in Black Hawk County
On Sunday, June 20, the National Weather Service in Des Moines issued the first two Severe Thunderstorms Warnings of the year for Black Hawk County.
These two warnings were also the first of their kind issued since September 6, 2020, in Black Hawk County.
So far this year, the NWS in Des Moines has issued a total of only 45 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for its 51 county coverage area. That number is nearly half the amount of last year’s total (82) up to this point. It’s the third-fewest amount of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings ever issued (since 1986) through June 20th. (1992 had a count of 39 and 1988 had only 32)
