Fatal Shooting Under Investigation In Waterloo
Authorities are investigating a shooting outside a Waterloo convenience store that left one man dead and caused the temporary closure of busy city streets.
Police officers and fire rescue personal were called to the 1100 block of Washington Street Tuesday around 4:30 PM. When they arrived, authorities found a male suffering from a gunshot wound collapsed in the median. Police said the victim died from the injury.
The shooting happened shortly after severe weather had rolled across Waterloo. The storms knocked downs trees and caused power outages throughout the city.
The incident forced officials to close off streets in the area around Kwik Stop 3 and Gyro Hut, 1104 Washington St., so they could gather evidence. All southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 218 were shutdown and traffic was rerouted into the nearby neighborhood. The intersection of Washington -- one of the city's busiest streets -- and West 9th St. was also blocked off at the height of rush hour. The roads were all reopened by 7:30 PM.
Authorities did not immediately identify the man killed in the shooting. Police are looking for a suspect and asking for the public’s help in solving the case. Anyone with information should contact Waterloo police.
