Eastern Iowa 4-Hers Will Represent The State On National Stage
Earlier this month, 4-Hers across Iowa gathered at Iowa State University to compete in the Iowa 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl and Skillathon.
4-Hers put their livestock knowledge to the test as they were quizzed on beef, sheep, meat goats, swine, and current events in the industry.
The senior winning team from Benton County will represent Iowa at the National 4-H Quiz Bowl contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition held in Louisville, Kentucky this November. The Benton County team also received high honors in the skillathon and will represent Iowa in the National Contest in Louisville, Kentucky.

The second-place team from will represent Iowa at the National Western in Denver, Colorado this January.

The quiz bowl contest was double elimination where team members buzzed in to answer questions from the moderator. In each match, contestants were asked individual and team questions.
In the skillathon, participants took a 25-question written test as well as completed stations that focused on livestock breed, equipment and meat identification, wool judging, and hay evaluation. Then as a team, contestants had to solve four different scenarios involving live animals and animal management concepts.
