Dollar Tree in Iowa Will Soon be ‘$1.25 Tree’
Since Dollar Tree’s inception in 1986, almost everything in their store has been one buck. But that’s about to change in December. (The company was originally called "Only $1.00", before changing its name to Dollar Tree in 1993).
The company announced last week that it will be raising prices 25% --- to $1.25. Some stores won’t be updating the new prices until 2022. So their name might not be changing, but the prices sure will be.
According to a report on CNN, selling items for just $1 forced the stores to stop selling some "customer favorites." Raising prices will give Dollar Tree the chance to bring those items back and even expand its selection with new products.
According to Dollartree.com, Iowa is home to 264 Dollar Tree stores, including Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Independence, Iowa City, Marion, Oelwein, Waterloo, and Waverly among many other municipalities. There are over 15,000 Dollar Tree stores in 48 states and in Canada with nearly 200,000 employees.
While Dollar Tree has stuck with their items costing under a buck (until now), Dollar General’s items cost more than a buck. Dollar General has over 18,000 stores across the United States. Family Dollar has over 8,000 locations in the U.S. In 2014, the Family Dollar brand was acquired by Dollar Tree. The Dollar Tree headquarters is located in Chesapeake, Virginia.
