David Gilmour Unveils Clips From New ‘Live At Pompeii’ Movie
David Gilmour has released more preview clips from his upcoming concert movie Live at Pompeii.
The film will be screened in theaters for one night only on Sept. 13 before going on sale to home video on Sept. 29. You can watch an excerpt of the classic Pink Floyd track “One of These Days” above, plus a part of “A Boat Lies Waiting” and an unboxing of the deluxe box set below.
The movie was shot during Gilmour’s two-night return to the historic amphitheater at Pompeii during his 2016 world tour in support of his latest album Rattle That Lock. While Pink Floyd recorded a film at the same venue in 1972, but without an audience present, last year’s shows marked the first time since 79AD that a crowd was entertained at the venue.
“It’s an extraordinary place to be because it’s preserved exactly as it was," Gilmour told Rolling Stone last year. "If you visit any other antiquity-type sites throughout the world, they’re very damaged with what’s gone on over the centuries since their were abandoned. This one was just sealed, so you’re looking at rock surfaces, and the carving of letters and names in the stones looks like it was done yesterday.”
David Gilmour Live at Pompeii was directed by Gavin Elder, and shot in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound. Producers call the movie “an audio-visual spectacle featuring lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs.” Tickets are available now at the movie's website.
