A new head coach will be guiding the baseball team at Waterloo West High School this summer.

Nate Lamphier has been chosen to take charge of the Wahawks' program, Waterloo Schools officials announced Wednesday. Lamphier previously served as the head baseball coach at South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City, where he led the Titans to one Twin Lakes Conference championship and upper division finishes in five of the last six years.

“We are happy to have Nate on board," said Dr. Anthony Pappas, West's Director of Athletics. "We look forward to working very closely with him as he tries to continue to improve our baseball program.”

Lamphier replaces Chad Crosby, who coached the Wahawks to a 17-25 record the past two seasons combined. An Oelwein native, Lamphier played collegiate baseball at Upper Iowa University.

In addition to being named West's baseball coach, Lamphier has been hired as a special education teacher at the school.
