The Waterloo Black Hawks seconded their second win of the weekend downing the weekend Saturday (11/18/2017) putting down the Green Bay Gamblers, 3-1.

The victory gives the Hawks all four possible weekend standings points following a 3-2 Friday result against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

The Black Hawks were denied on three first period power plays but still recorded the only goal during the opening 20 minutes at the end of a successful special teams spell. After killing a Green Bay advantage, Garrett Klee led a three-on-two rush, slipping a pass to Matej Blumel in the slot. Blumel beat Maksim Zhukov to the stick side with 43.9 seconds remaining before intermission.

Each team scored in the second. Green Bay tied the game at 10:35 of the second when Nolan Moyle batted in a rebound from close range during a five-on-three power play. However, Waterloo went back to the lead less than five minutes later at 15:01. Jackson Cates pulled the puck back to the left point on a faceoff win; Hank Sorensen’s resulting low shot found its way to the back of the net.

The 2-1 lead held until Garrett Wait scored into an empty net from his own zone at 19:25 of the third.

The Hawks now prepare for Thanksgiving week, which includes a Wednesday night road game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The traditional Thanksgiving home game versus the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will be Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. Good seats are currently still available and can be ordered online from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
