In his debut weekend, Moe proved to be a solid netminder allowing only one goal across the two games against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. He also ended the weekend affair with an impressive 98.1% save percentage.

The 18-year-old dazzled in his league debut on Friday, turning away 30 Dubuque Fighting Saints shots for both his first USHL win and shutout, as the Black Hawks prevailed, 2-0. During a Saturday rematch, he turned away another 22 shots, suffering a 1-0 defeat in another goaltenders duel. His resulting 98.1% save percentage is currently at the top of the league among goalies who have appeared in at least two games to this point.

“I thought he was calm and strong; the saves he made were confident,” said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O’Handley about Moe’s effort. “Those are good things for young goaltenders to have during games early on.”

The Black Hawks selected the New Prague, Minnesota, native during the fifth round in Phase II of the 2017 USHL Draft. He was the ninth goalie chosen. Last season, Moe played for Holy Family Catholic High School. He is the first Black Hawk to win a league Player of the Week award in 2017/18.

The 2-1-0 Black Hawks visit the Sioux City Musketeers and Sioux Falls Stampede this weekend, completing a season-opening sequence where four of the first five games have been away from Young Arena.

Waterloo’s next home game will be Friday, October 27th against the Fargo Force.
