Black Hawks Even Series Up With Sunday Win
Waterloo Black Hawks goalie Jared Moe made 21 saves Sunday, allowing Waterloo to even their USHL Western Conference Semifinal against the Lincoln Stars by way of a 3-0 Game Two result at Young Arena.
Moe was strong in his first postseason game and at his busiest in the first period when each team put nine shots on goal. Waterloo limited the Stars to six shots in both the second and third.
Garrett Klee scored the only goal of the first shortly after a successful Waterloo penalty kill. At 11:47, Ethan Johnson jabbed the puck free at his own blue line, then Klee caught up with it as it slid into the Stars zone. Shifting from forehand to backhand, Klee lifted his chance over goalie Derek Schaedig and under the crossbar.
Waterloo added the only goal of the second at 2:52. A rink-wide pass from Bobby Trivigno to Solag Bakich was returned the opposite direction, and Trivigno moved across the slot as he lifted his opportunity over Schaedig’s left shoulder.
Garrett Wait notched the final goal with 5:02 left in regulation. Jackson Cates batted a clearing attempt out of midair, then saucered a pass to Wait in the deep slot. Wait capitalized for his second goal of the series.
The series continues Wednesday and Thursday with Games Three and Four at the Ice Box in Lincoln. Game 5 (if necessary) will be Saturday (4/28/18) at 7:05 PM CT at Young Arena in Waterloo.
