Covid Took It Away, But Chef Jeremy Returns With “Tonight’s Specials”

Chef Jeremy will be back in front of the Specials Case starting tomorrow (Tuesday 3/30) at Duck City Bistro.

The list of things we can't do anymore, or can't quite do the same way we used to due to the precautions brought on by last year's Covid-19 pandemic is long for everyone. And our patience is wearing thin. Even with the vaccine light at the end of the tunnel, certain things may never come back fully. Watching Chef describe the evenings' options as you came into Duck City was one of the things that just had to stop, due to social distancing. Chef closed the business in the early months of 2020, completed a top to bottom cleaning, and implemented strict safety protocols before reopening to limited seating.

Well, one small step for the normalcy in downtown Davenport will return tomorrow night, when, for the first time in over a year, owner Chef Jeremy will announce the evening's specials one-by-one to arriving guests at Duck City Bistro. If you've ever been to the restaurant gem in the heart of downtown (Well, before 2020 anyway) you were most-likely greeted by Chef's proud description of each night's specials. He describes each one like a favorite child who just got a scholarship to play football for the Hawkeyes.

It's a tradition that goes back 30 years, when Jeremy's father started the business of highlighting the evenings offerings. And, really, a unique presentation that makes sense. Why NOT have the artist who created the delicious meals describe them to the customers who might be partaking in them? It's one of my favorite parts of the Duck City Bistro experience. Chef proudly, and with a hint of comedy, bringing diners into their own personal one-on-one with the proprietor.

Chef mentioned to me and my wife when we were there recently that, with a little re-arranging of the tables, he will be able to accommodate hungry diners and also bring a little "Show" back to his business. I couldn't be happier for the Duck City staff, and its' customers, new and old, who are ready to return to fine dining at a place where everybody "knows the chef"
