You may want to add this to your fall bucket list!

Back in the summer of 2022, Rail Explorers USA announced an amazing new experience for Iowans in partnership with the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad. They debuted what's called a "rail explorers tour," which allows people of all ages to experience nature in a whole new way!

If you're not familiar with rail explorers, they're pedal-powered vehicles that are made to ride on railroad tracks, and each cart can hold two or four riders. They're much easier to operate than a regular bike, though. Steering isn't required, so riders are free to take photos and videos during their trip. The rail explorers are safe for all ages to enjoy, including young children. According to the official website:

"Riders can enjoy beautiful views of the Des Moines River Valley, where is it is not uncommon to see a convocation of bald eagles along the riverbank. The ride’s showstopper is the 750’ long, 156’ high 'Bass Point Creek High Trestle'. Riders crossing this bridge have panoramic views of the valley and experience the thrill of soaring high above the creek below."

An August TikTok video from user Jade_Banter showcases the beauty of the scenic tour over in Boone, and it recently went viral. It's received over five MILLION views, and once you see it, you'll understand why!

Rail Explorers USA operates in five locations across the U.S., but the one in Boone is the very first in the Midwest. There are several different tour options, each one lasting around two hours and traveling 11.5 to 12.5 miles. They even offer a Scenic Valley Lantern Tour that sends riders out at twilight, which means that they travel back in the dark! Tours run through the end of October.
