After a sensational four years in Cedar Falls including being a three-year letter winner at linebacker, Jack Campbell helped prep team reach state playoffs as a junior and senior, while posting three-year record of 27-6.

After receiving scholarship offers to UNI, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Iowa, he determined his future was in Iowa City. It's turned out to be a pretty good choice.

In 2020, Campbell appeared in just five games, finishing with 29 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception.

This season, over a significant increase in playing time, he's shown he's a sideline-to-sideline linebacker and a ball-hawk. Pun intended.

Through 12 games and heading into the Big Ten Championship game tomorrow, he's put together 124 total tackles (leading the team by more than 30), 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception.

While the latter stats don't jump off the page, Campbell's impact is certainly felt on the Hawkeye defense.

He told the Big Ten Network that he believes he embodies the Iowa football program:

I'm not very flashy, I like to get out there and get to work. I'm never going to walk into the film room and see a comment of me not giving 100 percent. That's something I try to bring to the table every single day.

Head coach for the program, Kirk Ferentz, says his combination of tenacity and physical tools (especially standing at 6'5, 243 pounds) is what makes Campbell so dangerous on the football field:

He's got a really unusual skillset for a linebacker. He's probably the biggest one we've had. He looks like a really exceptional NFL linebacker. Not many of them are that tall ... That attitude that he plays with -- that really separates him.

That's saying a lot for a team with the history of Iowa football. Linebackers like Pat Angerer, Josey Jewell, Chad Greenway, Abdul Hodge, Fred Barr, Christian Kirksey, James Morris, A.J. Edds, Ben Niemann, Anthony Hitchens, and more.

That's probably why nationally-syndicated radio personality, Rich Eisen, featured Campbell as his Gorilla Glue Toughest Player on Planet Earth:

The Hawkeyes will face off with the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Conference Championship game this Saturday at 7 p.m. in Indianapolis. They may have a shot at the Rose Bowl as well.
