A Cedar Falls man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

James Gilliam Jr. III was taken into custody Wednesday night after the victim arrived at the Cedar Falls Public Safety Center and reported that she had been assaulted by him at the home they shared. Authorities said the woman had multiple injuries.

The 39-year-old Gilliam was taken into custody a short time later. According to public safety officials, Gilliam resisted his arrest and assaulted officers during the incident.

Gilliam was charged with the following offenses:

  • Domestic assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury (Class D felony)
  • Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Injury (aggravated misdemeanor)
  • Assault on a Peace Officer (serious misdemeanor)
  • Interference with official acts causing bodily injury (aggravated misdemeanor)

Gilliam was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail on the four charges.
