Black Hawks Lose To Des Moines Wed. Night-Rematch Tonight At Home
The Black Hawks 3-game winning streak came to an Wednesday night in Des Moines, as the Buccaneers slipped passed Waterloo 3-2 at Wells Fargo Arena.
It was tied or a one-goal game for all but 32 seconds of action. In the third period, the Black Hawks drew back within a goal. Wyatt Schingoethe set up Michael LaStarza nicely for a slam dunk finish before the Buccaneers' goalie Derek Mullahy could even react. The Black Hawks got a goal in the 2nd, when Ethan Szmagaj shot a pass to Cooper Wylie and rifled his shot to the top corner.
Last night's game, was the first of 8 scheduled meetings between the teams during the 2020/21 regular season. The teams meet for an instant rematch tonight, in Waterloo's traditional New Year’s Eve contest at Young Arena. Doors open at 5:05pm (with no early entry for fans), the puck drops at 6:05pm. As a reminder, fans are REQUIRED to wear a mask at ALL TIMES (except for when eating or drinking) when inside the building.

In a press release, the team announced that Max Sasson is the United States Hockey League’s Forward of the Week. In Sioux City, on the day after Christmas, the Black Hawks and Musketeers were tied 3-3 in the third period. His go-ahead goal proved to be the game-winner in the 4-3 decision. Earlier in the matchup, Sasson recorded an assist on Kyler Kleven’s goal, which tied the game in the second period. Sasson is spending his first season with the Black Hawks after two years with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He is committed to Western Michigan University.
