It was a disappointing road trip to South Dakota but, Waterloo remains on top of the USHL's Western Conference, with a record of 26-9-2 and 54 points. They still own a 9 point cushion over 2nd place Tri-City with 45 points.

SATURDAY NIGHT AT SIOUX FALLS
Despite over-coming a two-goal third period deficit Saturday, the Black Hawks fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 5-4, at Sanford Premier Center.

Coming out of the second intermission, Waterloo trailed 3-1, but quickly changed those circumstances. Sioux Falls goaltender Jaxson Stauber stopped - but did not control - a Griffin Ness shot 21 seconds into the period. Joe Cassetti swooped in to lift the loose puck between the pipes. The Hawks’ early momentum ebbed after an un-assisted Sioux Falls goal from Brandon Chabrier on a long shot originating above the right wing circle two-and-a-half minutes later.

However, the Hawks leveled the score with two goals in a 17-second span before the period reached its midpoint. Matthew Argentina sped past a defender to fire the puck to the short-side, top corner over Stauber’s shoulder at 7:52. On the ensuing shift, Aaron Bohlinger tied the game when his try from the left point made it through traffic and into the net.

Sioux Falls broke the tie with the eventual winning goal at 10:24. With a pileup in the Waterloo crease, Garrett Pinoniemi flipped in a third chance after Gabriel Carriere had already made two saves. Kyle Haskins beat Stauber to tie it at 8:22. A three-on-two rush became a scramble when a Stampede defender fell down. Haskins paused, targeted the net from the right circle, and sent the water bottle flying from the top of the cage.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT SIOUX FALLS
Brenden Olson gave Sioux Falls an overtime victory Friday, nudging the home team past the Black Hawks 3-2 at Sanford Premier Center.

No one picked up a breaking Olson in the neutral zone as he received the puck and sped up right wing. Cutting across the slot below the hashmarks, Olson lifted his shot over a sprawling Gabriel Carriere, 96 seconds into the extra period. The Hawks answered almost exactly a period later at 16:06 of the second. Moving up the ice on a rush, Griffin Ness dodged a defender in the right circle and sent a pass across the goalmouth. Wyatt Schingoethe came flying up left wing to spike the chance past Jaxson Stauber.

Schingoethe scored again to give the Black Hawks the lead at 3:52 of the third period. Dane Montgomery bounced the puck off the kick plate to be picked up by Schingoethe at the bottom of the left circle. With Stauber caught off balance, Schingoethe hit the net from a sharp angle. The lead lasted until 11:31, when Westscott eluded the Hawks’ defense in transition to slip in an attempt from close range.

In the loss, the Hawks out-shot the Stampede 43-25.
