Bill Burr on Iowa: ‘You’ve Got to be Tough to Live Out There’
Bill Burr, a stand-up comedian and podcast host from Boston, Massachusetts, is not afraid to rip on anyone. It's pretty much his schtick. His wife, his parents, his friends, whatever city he's performing in -- nothing is off-limits. He's what the kids call, 'a savage.'
In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show 2.0, a podcast hosted by former Indianapolis Colts punter, McAfee, Burr was discussing Hollywood and the way people talk about the neighborhood in Los Angeles, California:
The amount of people who sh*t on Hollywood and have never been out there is the same number of people who that make fun of Des Moines, Iowa that have never been there.
As a fan of Bill's, I was intrigued. Rather than staying on the topic of Hollywood, Burr went straight down the rabbit hole of discussing our state.
McAfee joined in and said, "Yes, Des Moines is a beautiful place."
Burr's response?
Not in February.
Touche, Bill. Touche.
He continued:
That's when I finally understood Slipknot.
(A heavy metal or 'screamo' band from Iowa)
I was like, 'How the hell did they get so damn angry?' ... Then I had a college gig in February and all the crops were cut down. It was overcast, just gray. I felt like I was on the moon. Like what you would have to do to get the blood going out here? You've got to be tough to live out there.
