Asteroid Almost A Mile Wide will Zoom Past Earth Today

Asteroid 136795 (1997 BQ) is going to zoom by Earth today at 26,000 mph. How big is it? Oh, around the size of the Golden Gate Bridge.

At its closest, it will be a mere 3.8 million miles away from Earth. By comparison, we are around 239,000 miles away from the moon, according to spacereference.org.

It will pass 'near' Earth this afternoon at around 4:45 PM CT, according to NASA, so you know, 'heads up.'

The next time it will be relatively close to Earth will be on February 21, 2027. It was first spotted in 1997.
