Motorists across Iowa are being cautioned that winds and snow drifts -- not to mention record or near-record wind chills -- are making driving conditions hazardous, and may put a damper on your travel plans.

In Bremer County, deputies responded to a crash in bone-chilling temperatures Tuesday morning. A motorist went off the road and ended up in a snow-covered median.

According to authorities, Robert Waters, 67, of Wellsburg, lost control of the van he was driving on U.S. Highway 218/Iowa Highway 27. The northbound van, which was pulling a trailer, jack-knifed and came to rest in the median.

The accident happened north of Janesville, just before 11 AM.

Officials said no one was injured, and damage to the van and trailer appeared to be minimal.

The accident was covered by Bremer County sheriff's officials with assistance from Janesville police.

Again, sheriff's departments from across the state are urging residents not to travel today, unless absolutely neccessary.
