All of Northeast Iowa Now Under Winter Storm Warning
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of northeast Iowa for Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
The NWS in Des Moines has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of northeast Iowa in effect now until Thursday (April 19) at 1:00 AM.
Total snow accumulations of six to eight inches are forecast. A light glaze of ice accumulations is also expected, especial between Interstate 80 and US Highway 20. Winds will complicate matters as well with gusts hitting 20 to 30 MPH..
The winter storm will move across the northern half of Iowa Wednesday. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected to fall across areas north of US Highway 30. Thundersnow is also possible. A wintry mix of precipitation is expected on the southern edge into portions of central Iowa as well. The storm should end by Wednesday.
The forecast calls for snowfall amounts around six inches for most of the region. Some areas may see as much as eight inches of snow (yellow section in map below). Plan on difficult travel conditions beginning during Wednesday mornings commute. Expect significant reductions in visibility at times
