The summer of 2020 just got even quieter. The Great Jones County Fair in Monticello has announced all entertainment at the 2020 fair has been postponed.

This year's fair, July 22 through 26, was scheduled to include concerts from Dan & Shay on Thursday, July 23, and Alan Jackson and Dustin Lynch on Friday, July 24. A Zac Brown Band show on Saturday, July 25 was canceled by the band on March 20.

According to information provided to us by the Great Jones County Fair,

We are making efforts to negotiate the terms with our entertainers and grandstand events for July 21-25, 2021. We will make those announcements at a later date, and address our current ticket holders with their opportunities.

Does that mean the acts you hoped to see this summer in Monticello will be at next year's Great Jones County Fair? It's too soon to tell but John Harms and everyone associated with the fair are hard at work on planning for next year. You should also know there were seven additional acts booked for this year's fair that were never publicly announced. The fair is also in negotiations with those artists for 2021.

As far as the 2020 fair is concerned, it will focus on area youths in F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America) and 4H (Head, Heart, Hands, and Health) and their projects. The fair says,

Our immediate focus will be with our youth, and to provide a safe and healthy experience for them this summer as they showcase their hard work and projects. That exhibition will be accomplished by keeping with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and IDPH (Iowa Department of Public Health) guidelines, as we all address the COVID-19 pandemic.

For five days each July, the Jones County town of Monticello whose population is about 3,800, swells to at least twenty times its normal size thanks to the huge influx of fair and concert attendees. Those days this summer will be much quieter. For most of us, that means looking forward to next year and reflecting on past memories made in Monticello. Here's a look back at the last five years of country shows at the Great Jones County Fair...
