In Tasmania, the tiny island just to the south of Australia, apparently have spiders that are so large they can swallow a possum. A couple were in a place called Mount Field National Park when they saw a Huntsman Spider the size of a frisbee chomping down on a pygmy possum.

I was curious about this spider – mainly because I wanted to make sure it didn’t reside in Iowa ---- so I looked up some info. Huntsman Spiders are also are called giant crab spiders and can have a leg span up to 12 inches. If they bite you, their venom can cause heart palpitations, headaches, vomiting, cause an irregular pulse rate. Fun!

Is the Huntsman spider located in the U.S? Yep. Southern Florida. (also in parts of California, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas)
