A New Gym is Moving Into a Historic Downtown Eastern Iowa Building
A Downtown Cedar Rapids theatre is going to be getting a total makeover! A new gym called House of Iron is coming to 316 3rd Ave SE in Downtown Cedar Rapids in 2024!
House of Iron is owned by Brent and Jasmin Stepanek, who also own NutriSport Downtown, Virtue Salon and Spa, and Virtue Extension Lounge in Cedar Rapids. Brent told me that the 10,000 square-foot gym will contain state-of-the-art gym equipment, a cold plunge tub, a sauna, locker rooms, showers, a "posing room," and more. House of Iron will offer monthly memberships, as well as personal training sessions.
Before House of Iron can open its doors to the public, a lot of work needs to be done. The gym is located inside the historic Strand Theater, which has been around since 1915! According to the City of Cedar Rapids website, the space became known as the State Theater in 1929 and then the New World Playhouse in 1960. It went out of business in 1981 and ended up being into incorporated into the Guaranty Bank complex. Here's a sneak peek into what the interior of the building looks like right now:
Brent and Jasmine announced on social media this week that construction on House of Iron will begin within the next few months. They hope to have it open sometime in mid-2024. For the latest updates, you can follow the new gym on Facebook HERE and Instagram HERE.
