We hear stories all the time of people in comas having strange dreams, hearing their family's voice and waking up so they could be with them again. Well, there are also some stories of people who were in a coma and woke up after hearing their favorite song. Looking at these songs, someone definitely was waking up to turn off the song that was playing.

Thanks to Mental Floss who put together an extended list of songs people woke up from a coma to, we know a myriad of stories of people waking up to songs from comas.

For example, in 2012, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gee's developed pneumonia. He was already weak from battles with liver and colon cancer, and chemotherapy hadn't helped his strength at all.

While he was in the coma, his wife played Crying by Roy Orbison, which caused him to cry.

Later, he would be fully revived when his son, Robin-John, played him Don't Cry Alone - a piece that Robin did his own rendition for the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic.

If you know someone in a coma, it sounds like even if they don't wake up with the playing of their favorite song, they still can hear it. Be sure you let them enjoy their favorite music, and who knows, maybe you'll get a smile or a tear out of them to let you know they're sticking around a little while longer.

Here are some other songs people woke up after hearing.

  • American Idiot

    Green Day

9-year-old Corey George was hit by a car on his birthday in 2005, and was in a coma for nearly two weeks after the accident. With him clinging to life through a life support machine, his mom decided to play him his favorite album - American Idiot by Green Day. Within an hour of starting to play the album, Coreys eyes were open and he was wiggling fingers and toes.

  • (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

    The Rolling Stones

Around the time Sam Carter was 60, he had fallen into a coma that doctor's gave him no chance of surviving. It was when his wife's headphones she had placed on him started playing (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction that Sam woke up.

"I could remember how excited I was to get it down at the record shop. I suddenly had a burst of energy and knew I had a lot more life left in me and that's when I woke up—to the sound of the first song I ever bought," he said.

  • Bryan Adams

At the age of 16, Christiane Kittel fell into a coma after a blood clot in her lung. In 2007, her mom got permission from the hospital to get her out for the night to a Bryan Adams concert. In the middle of the show, Christiane started moving around, opened her eyes, and called for her mom.

  • Livin' On a Prayer

    Bon Jovi

I think we all knew this song would be on this list somewhere.

22-year-old David Hassall was in a coma after a head-on collision with a tree - that is, until his mom played him Livin' On A Prayer. In the middle of the song, David's mother noticed he was mouthing the words.

  • Gangnam Style

    Psy

After a brain hemorrhage left her in a coma for 258 days, Ying Nan's mom remembered a goofy song that her daughter always enjoyed, so she played it. After playing Psy's Gangnam Style, Ying began laughing. So, her mom did it again the next day. She not only woke up, but learned to walk and talk again.

  • Unchained Melody

    The Righteous Brothers

There was surely not a dry eye in the room of coma victim, Maria Neal. After months with few signs of life, her husband decided to play her their wedding song.

"When I actually got a response and I asked her, 'Do you know what this is?' and she nodded yes, it was absolutely fantastic," her husband said.

  • Just The Way You Are

    Bruno Mars

In 2013, Zumyah Thorpe miraculously survived a car crash that killed her two sisters and pregnant mother, but was in a coma. After nurses played Just The Way You Are for her every night, Thorpe finally woke up.

The first things she could muster up the strength to say, were lyrics to Just The Way You Are. In this video, you can see this clip from a Bruno Mars show in Cleveland a year later, where Bruno serenaded her.

  • The Devil Went Down To Georgia

    The Charlie Daniels Band

I know one soul the devil isn't stealing. Jarret Carland spent four months in a coma after a car accident killed his best friend and seriously injured one other person. Doctors weren't optimistic about him waking up, until his parents played a song he was obsessed with.

After a few repetitons of The Devil Went Down To Georgia, Jarret responded. A year later, he was able to thank Charlie Daniels in person.

  • You're Beautiful

    James Blunt

Five-year-old Claudia Dealwis fell from a friends balcony and suffered a fractured skull. She had been in the coma for 10 days, when one of Claudia's favorite songs - You're Beautiful by James Blunt.

"When it came on the hospital radio we could just see her starting to move a bit and we knew she was beginning to wake up,” her father said. "When she opened her eyes and acknowledged us we were so relieved. Every little movement was like a massive step."

  • Rolling In The Deep

    Adele

Charlotte Neve, 7-years-old, was in a coma after a brain hemorrhage. When the 2012 song of the year came on the radio, her mom started to sing along. That was when Charlotte started to smile. She was out of bed and moving around within two days.
