This September, ZZ Top will hit the road for a brief tour of the East Coast and the Midwest. Opening for them at all the shows will be Gov't Mule. The dates are listed below.

"ZZ Top and the Mule are cut from the same dyed-in-the blues cloth,” ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons said in a press release. “I’ve long admired the band and Warren Haynes’ guitar work. He has a certain grit to everything he does. We’re gonna have a fine time.”

The tour will begin on Sept. 9 at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. It will then head south towards the Mid-Atlantic region for four more shows before moving west for concerts in Rosemont, Ill., Maryland Heights, Mo. and the final night on Sept. 20 in Kansas City, Mo.

Gibbons and Gov't Mule go back to at least 2009, when he played on "Broke Down on the Brazos," the opening song on Gov't Mule's album By a Thread. Coincidentally, Gov't Mule will, on Aug. 5, release The Tel-Star Sessions, a collection of their earliest demos, one of which is a cover of ZZ Top's "Just Got Paid." “Early ZZ Top was definitely an influence on the Mule," Haynes said. "‘Just Got Paid’ was one of the first covers we worked up when we only knew a handful of songs.”

In addition to touring with ZZ Top, Gov't Mule will also make their annual appearance at Mountain Jam. which will be held June 2-5 at the Hunter Mountain ski resort in Hunter, N.Y. Also on the bill for the festival are the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Beck, Wilco and Train, who will perform Led Zeppelin's second album in its entirety. You can get complete details at Mountain Jam's website.
