Young Child Dies When Tricycle Hits Minivan

Authorities are investigating a traffic accident in which a young child was struck and killed while riding a tricycle

It happened just before 4pm Wednesday (March 8) in Monticello.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a southbound minivan was approaching the intersection of South Cedar and West Washington Streets, when an 8 year old child driving a tricycle collided with the front of the minivan.

The child, now identified as 8 year old Cassandra Rieken of Monticello, sustained fatal injuries.

The minivan driver was identified as 27 year old April Covel of Monticello.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Monticello Police, and Jones County Sheriff.
